Industry Calls Archives: Internet - October 2000
Internets
Tuesday, October 24, 2000:  We're starting to pick up bearish signals on internets, similar to those we'd been getting on the semiconductor sector (i.e. likely to dip somewhat, then rebound stronger).
Wednesday, October 18, 2000:  Like semiconductors, internets had initially started looking for weak support, then broke through (to create lower and lower 52-wk lows for 3 weeks now) but we currently have much stronger bullish signals in this area as well. This, combined with the strong demand base supporting the sector as it tried to sell off this morning, mean that we are very near a bottom in this sector. For those who believe in the future of the industry over the long term, these are great levels to start getting in.

Wednesday, October 4, 2000:  For those easing into internets, keep in mind that the internet B2B stocks are not in a bear phase, while the pure internets are, so B2Bs (arba, cmgi, cmrc, etc.) will likely have bigger moves on the upside, and hold up better on the downside. We got further verification on this signal today.

Tuesday, October 3, 2000:  Internets look like their finally trying to form a bottom and make a move back up. Looks like either a weak buy for tomorrow or a strong buy in a couple of days. I would ease into it slowly, starting tomorrow (as we're still not perfect on reading these, and we didn't quite get what would be a full-fledged buy on the sector).

Monday, October 2, 2000:  Firming up for a buy signal. 13/16 stocks in the sectors, respectively, have bullish signals. No buy yet though.
