Industry Calls Archives: Biotech - March 2001
Biotechs
Thursday - Friday, March 22-23, 2001: Continued overall market weakness expected. Despite our last buy signal being stopped out (standard 15% SL on all industry/market calls) last Monday (March 12) for a 15% loss, the sector has dropped an additional 20% since, and the
follow-up buy we spoke of on March 7 appears to be much closer. Thursday's market action was similar to a one-day turnaround, with biotech indices closing up over 10% from its lows of the day. However, closer inspection of individual issues indicates that this pattern is yet incomplete, so it may be a while longer before we get the actual buy.

Wednesday, March 7, 2001: Overall market weakness expected. Follow-up buy coming (but not here yet). For those invested in biotech who are starting to get anxious due to the recent lack of strength, hang in there. Despite the absence of a strong move to the upside, biotech has shown no real signs of weakness either, and we see a follow-up buy developing on the sector, though it is not here yet.
