Industry Calls Archives: Semiconductors - January 2001
Semiconductors
Wednesday, January 17, 2001:  Overall market sell.  Sell on tech sectors.

Thursday, January 11, 2001:   Overall market weakness expected.

Sell.  Here as well, we have bearish signals on almost all stocks in this industry, many of which

came today.  The sector is up nearly 20% from Monday's lows, and some stocks have gained as much as 50% in the last two weeks.  We expect this sector to be strong (as such, longer term investors may choose to remain in their holdings), and the sell may take a little while longer to execute, but we still expect to see a pullback before this sector resumes its uptrend.

Thursday, January 4, 2001:

Overall market downtrend expected.

Sell.  We have bearish signals on two-thirds of the stocks in the sector, more than half of which came today.  While we believe this industry is technically one of the strongest among high techs, the nearly 25% move from yesterday’s low to today’s high is a bit much for any sector to digest.  We expect to see these stocks drifting down as they give back some portion (but likely not all) of their recent gains.
