Market Overview
March 10 - 14, 2003 Full Current Market Overview
Thursday, March 13, 2003:

One Day Turnaround . . .

Buy.  The last eight months have seen the market both rise and fall, but after all that, the NASDAQ is up a mere 7%.  We were expecting that we might be approaching a downturn shortly, with the index running into resistance at its 50- and 200-day moving averages), but that will not be the case.  Yesterday’s market produced bullish signals on 30% of the stocks we cover, resulting in a reading of more than 200 on our proprietary strength factor (a value of more than 150 bullish or bearish is indicative of a buy or a sell, respectively, if other criteria are met).  While the level of executables was not convincing enough for us to issue a buy signal yesterday, the confluence of buys, combined with today’s “one day turnaround,” leaves little doubt that the market has renewed its uptrend.  We maintain a buy on this market and expect that the NASDAQ will see at least 10-12% more upside before turning around.

· Strategies for a Volatile Market: Growth vs. Value and Value-Based Trading (presentation at National Association of Securities Professionals 2001 Fall Conference)

An incredibly volatile market environment leads the investor to place increased emphasis on security, without sacrificing performance.  Value will outperform growth over the next several years.

Also Inside: In this Trader's Market of great rises and great falls, understanding market cycles is the key to enjoying the prosperity of long-term upswings, while avoiding the big losses.  As a "buy-and-hold" strategy will not yield much fruit over the next decade, we have developed a hybrid model of technical and fundamental analysis Value-Based Trading.
